Land of Black Gold Started in 1939 and finally finished in 1949, Land of Black Gold was set aside during the war years, censored by the German occupiers of Belguim. Someone is truing to sabotage European supplies of gasoline which threatens to result in war unless the villains can be brought to justice. Tintin and Snowy are soon following the tracks of the evil and dangerous plotters to the deserts and towns of the Middle East. The story was again revised in 1960 at the request of Herge's British publisher seeking to eliminate dated portrayls of the Jewish underground battling British Palestinian occupiers before the establishment of Israel, as well as Jews and Arabs battling each other. Despite three very different versions, the resulting story is excellent.
