Lifecasting or bodycasting is the art of taking molds directly from the human body. It is an ancient art form dating back to the time of the Egyptians where body casts were made as a means of transport to the next world. Life-casting follows the tradition of great artists, including George Segal, John DeAndrea and Duane Hanson. It is easy and fun to do. The kit comes complete with everything you'll need. The empty plastic can becomes the casting container. A special Molding Gel is mixed with water. The child places their hand in the can and holds it still in an interesting position. The gel is poured in, and sets up in about a minute, creating a solid gelly mold. The child carefully removes their hand from the gelly, sort of like slipping out of a tight glove.

The casting powder is then mixed with water and poured into the mold....we recommend that an adult do this step, careful not to breath any of the powder dust as it is mixed. An hour later, once the CastRite has solidified, the can and gelly are cut away, revealing a perfect sculpture of the child's hand, accurate to the finest details. After a day or two to dry completely, the sculpture can be painted with your acrylic paints or left in it's natural white finish.
