About the year 1540 Bishop Vasco de Quiroga ordered her made of cornstalp paste, a specialty of the Tarascan Indians of Michoacan. The pith of the cornstalk is beaten to a paste, to which is added an orchid called tantzingueni to give it body and preserve it from insect damage. The product which results is light and durable and easy to form into statues." "La mas antigua imagen mexicana, duspes de la Guadalupana, es la de la Salud, en Patzucaro.
