KidsArt Store Entrance | Art History For Kids Multicultural Art for Kids | Great Artists For Kids Art History Coloring Books Ancient Egypt - Classical Greece - Roman Empire - Medieval Art - Ancient Americas
These "coloring books" are packed with detailed line-art drawings of traditional art from ancient cultures - the art history of our world. By coloring the pages, children take in the beauty and detail of each culture's work, and learn to recognize not only the artwork, but the style and history of different civilizations around the world.
The books include descriptions of the artwork and archaeological stories telling the history and use of each item. It is always fun to locate a book or web site showing other examples of the art from each era, so students can make use of traditional colors and textures as they decorate these coloring pages. Kids can also let their imaginations run wild, and color the drawings with their own schemes and patterns - expanding on the original work.
The pages can be colored right in each book...or photocopied (same size or enlarged) onto heavy paper so the book is retained as a master copy. Kids can use crayons or marker pens. Colored pencils will give older students a perfect medium for adding shading, contouring and fine details. Kids can paint the drawings with watercolors, or combine both techniques with watercolor pencils that are colored on dry like a pencil, then overpainted with clear water for amazing painting effects. The drawings could also be the base for collage work with cut paper, cloth and magazine patterns pasted on to enhance colored areas.
There are many fine titles available in this series. Please click each book cover, or click the list below, for details on each book.
