DAS Terracotta Clay

We fell in love with this unique clay after our first project. It looks like a traditional terracotta "flowerpot" clay, with a rich earth red-brown color, but does not require kiln firing to finish pieces. Instead, this remarkable clay dries in the air to a sturdy hardness.

Example You can decorate finished pieces with acrylic or tempera paint, seal them with a final coat of shiny acrylic varnish if you wish, or leave them with a natural matte surface. The clay comes in a 1 kilo (2.2 pound) airtight package, and the clay will stay soft and pliable for months after opening, so long as you roll the package top to seal it tightly. Wet the clay with fingers dipped in water while you work it...leave it out in the air to harden (small figures, like the Mexican pottery animals pictured on this page, harden overnight). This is a wonderful clay for multi-cultural activities and folk art projects.
