This book by author/artist Cathy Johnson is a source for lots of information about the tools and techniques of watercolor. The illustrations in this book are painted by an adult, but because of their simplicity they also serve as good exercises for older kids. A serious young artist could, for example, try to reproduce each of Johnson's paintings as learning projects, copying each step as the paintings progress on the pages of the book. In this way, many basic watercolor skills will become part of the student's new "watercolor vocabulary," to be used later in their original paintings. 121 pages, full color throughout.
