Art in Action - Action in Art
Here are a few tricks for learning to draw people in motion:
1. Start with stick figures. 10 seconds each...count to ten as you sketch, then move to the next. Fill your drawing paper with tiny stick people tumbling and leaping, diving and running. If you draw for 10 minutes, how many figures can you make?
2. Get some sidewalk chalk. Take turns with a friend. Lie down on the sidewalk (in a safe location, of course) and position your body in a wild pose, then have your friend trace a line all around you. Stand up and finish your action figure by drawing clothes, a facxe, hair and other features.
3. Look at Leroy Neiman's paintings of sports figures. You can click the links below to leave KidsArt and see some of his work on the internet (remember to surf the internet safely...explore with your parents or a supervising
adult). Pick a favorite Neiman painting and draw or paint a big copy of it by yourself.

4. Draw your own action scene like the roller skaters above! Draw a sport you know and like to do. Include as many details as you can!
Materials: Paper, crayons - or colored pencils - or markers.
Time:
10-15 minutes.
