The Desert at Night

It's fun to draw with chalk...especially colored chalk...and especially on soft, black paper. The colors seem to shine against the dark background. Shannon Willis made this picture titled "The Desert at Night" when she was 7. She drew tall cactus plants, Indian tipis, and a highway stretching through colorful sand dunes. The sky is filled with clouds, stars and TWO moons...a round full moon, and a curved crescent moon.

You can find a wonderful set of Pastel Chalks in the KidsArt Store.

Chalk drawing handy hint: To protect the finished drawing and keep the chalk from smudging, coat your picture with a light misting of regular hairspray.
