The women of the Central American nation of Panama invented the tradition of creating colorful mola designs out of cloth to decorate clothing. These beautiful pictures are also valuable works of folk art. You can create a replica of a mola using colored paper, like this beautiful bird by Stephanie Roth, age 9, from Mrs. Bonde's class at Morris Bye Elementary School in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. Paper shapes cut out of red, yellow and black are glued in layers to create the picture.
