This still life painting was made by Tara McKinney, age 8, from Champaign, IL. Tara used tempera paint in bright colors, and black paint to outline the main shapes. A "still life" is a picture of a scene that the artist sets up on a table or counter with dishes, fruits and vegetables, or other objects. The artist looks at the objects while she draws and paints. You can paint a still life by setting up your own arrangement of objects.
Can you find Tara's signature on her painting? Do you think perhaps we got her picture into our computer backwards?

The Junior Brush & Smock Set is a great gift for young artists, with a large supply of brushes that work perfectly with tempera paints.
