Merriane Seifert from Richmond, Virginia made this picture in art class at school when she was in first grade. First she painted a city next to the water on red paper. She used tempera paint...white for the clouds, purple and black for the buildings, and lots of wavy squiggles and dots for the water. When her painting was dry, she cut white, yellow and light green paper into shapes for the boats...and decorated the sails too! The windows of the buildings are also bits of paper cut and glued onto the painting. What a great combination of painting and collage!

A really great assorted set of sturdy art papers, like the ones in the Textured Color Art Paper Pad, make collage artwork lots of fun.
